Since knitting does not require a loom or any other equipment it was valued by nomadic tribes. The origin of the knitting technique is believed to be somewhere in the Middle East and from there it spread to Europe. The origin or introduction of knitting in India is lost to history. Similar to other handicraft techniques knitting too has been industrialized, however, it has prevailed as an artistic expression and even adopted as a hobby in the 21st century.
